Sikkim

As you go from west bengal northwards towards the himalayas,you rech a tiny state called sikkim. It is entirely located in the Himalayas. It has boarders with Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal on three sides .

It is a beautiful state. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the word, is situated between sikkim and Nepal. Several fast-flowing strems and river flow through sikkim. These rivers have cut very deep valleys. The tista is the most important river of the state. A great part of sikkim is covered with thick forests, which are full of wildlife and plants. A large variety of birds and butterflies are also found here .

Sikkim has rich deposits of copper ,coal and lead .there is no big industryin this mountains state .weaving and handicrafts are the chief cottage industries .

Sikkim has very few good roads . it does not have a railway or airport . gangtok is the main city and the capital of sikkim .it is a small ,beautiful city .it is connected only by road with siliguri in west Bengal.

The government is making efforts to improve the economic conditions of their people .many roads and power houses are being built .small-scale industries are being set up.

Crops Of Sikkim

Farming is the chief occupation of the people living in the southern parts. They grow a variety of crops on their terraced fields. The chief crops are cardamom, potato, rice ,maize and barley . fruit like orange ,pineapples and apples are also found .sheep,goats and yaks are the domestic animals that provide milk ,meat and wool to the people .rearing of sheep ,goats and yaks is the main occupation of the people of northen sikkim .

Dresses Of Sikkim

The lepchas and the bhutias are the original inhabitants. But now ,most of the people in sikkim are Nepalese. They wear colourful ,hand-woven dresses .they sing and dance during all festivals .they generally wear masks while dancing .the people speak sikkimese ,nepali and lepcha languages .
