Rajasthan

Rajasthan is the second largest state of india .it has a long border with pakistan in the west .punjab,haryana,uttar pradesh ,madhya pradesh and gujarat are its neighbouring state.

The greater part of rajasthan is ,barren region .there are hill ranges, tablelands and forests in the southern parts of rajasthan.its eastern part is a fertile plain. The chambal, the luni and the banas are the main rivers of rajasthan. These river dry up in the summer season ,because they are fed only by rain-water. There is also a big salt-water lake called the sambhar lake.

There are hardly any roads or lay railway lines ,because it is very difficult to build roads or lay railway tracks on sand .at such places the camel is the popular means of transport . water is very scarce. People have to travel long distances in search of drinking water.

very few people live in these dry, sandy western parts . some of these dry areas have now started getting water from the ganga, and the India Gandhi canal. The indira Gandhi canal which gets water from the bhakra-nangal project, has almost turned parts of the desert into a fertile land.

Jaipur is the capital of rajasthan. It ia known as the pink city of India ,because the houses ,building and the palaces are all made of pink sandstone .

Rajasthan is rich in minerals. Lead, copper and silver are found in huge quantities. Almost all the marble in our country come from rajasthan.

Udaipur is an important tourist centre of rajasthan .it is also known as the “city of lakes ,,.it has many beautiful lakes ,garden and palaces .ajmer is another important city of rajasthan. It has the dargah of the famous sufi saint boinuddin chishti.pushkar, near ajmer ,is also a very famous holy place.pilgrims from all over the country visit these holy places every year.other important towns are ganganagar,barmer ,kota ,jodhpur and chittaurgarh.mount abu is the only hill-station of the state .the marble carvings in the dilwara temples of mount abu are the best in the world .

Rajasthan is the home of the brave rajputs .they are fine warrious .the ancient fortresses of chittaurgarh, bikaner ,bharatpur and jaisalmer remind us about the brave rajputs,like rana sanga and rana pratap.

The climate of rajasthan is hot and dry .rainfall is low .the western part of rajasthan is a desert .a hot ,dry and sandy region is calleda desert.

hey are very fond of bright and colourful clothes .most men wear dhoti ,waistcoat and colourful turbans. Some also wear churidars and achkan.the men also wear ear-rings. The women wear heavy ghagra (skirt),kanchi (blouse) and odhani (stole).the women are very fond of heavy jewellery.
