We have travelled through the states along the western and eastern coast of India. There is a state that is situated in the centre of India .it has no coastline and is called Madhya Pradesh ,meaning the central state.it is the largest state of India .maharashtra ,Gujarat ,rajashtan,uttar Pradesh ,bihar ,orissa and Andhra Pradesh surround it.
Land Surface and Rivers of Madhya Pradesh
The narmada is the most important river .the chambal ,betwa,ken,son and the mahanadi are the other important rivers. These river get water only from the rains .when there is extra water they get flooded. A number of dams have been built across these river to store water for use once the rainy season is over.gandhi sagar damon river chambal is very famous.
Madhya Pradesh has many kinds of land surfaces. The northern part is a level and fertile plain.
River narmada flows between the vindhya and the satpura ranges .it makes the area suitable for crops like rice ,sugar-cane and cotton .similarly,to the east of the narmada valley, is the chattisgarh plain .river mahanadi flows through it and makes it a very fertile area.
