Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh Known as “Dakshin Kosal” in ancient times. Chhattisgarh is a state with several unique features, such as abundant natural resources, rich biodiversity, and rich cultural diversity.  With all major minerals including diamonds in abundance, it is the richest State in mineral resources. Chhattisgarh takes its name from 36 (Chattis is thirty-six in Hindi and Garh is Fort) princely states in this region from very old times.

 Chhattisgarh is a 21st century State, came into being on November 1, 2000. It spans an area of about 135,194 km² and its population is over 20,795,956. The state capital is Raipur and the language is Chhattisgarhi. Mahanadi, one of largest rivers in India, originates from Chhattisgarh.

Climate of Chhattisgarh

During the summer season in Chhattisgarh, the temperature varies from 40 degree to 42.5 degree Celsius. From the month of March, the temperature starts to rise in Chhattisgarh. The summer season prevails from April to middle of June. In summer very dry wind blows over most parts of the state.
Gradually after September or October the temperature decreases. The winter season is mainly felt in Chhattisgarh during months of December and January. The Chhattisgarh climate remains moderately cold during winter. Temperature during winter season in Chhattisgarh varies from 10 to 15 degree Celsius. Monsoon in Chhattisgarh is experienced during the end of June or July to last week of August. Rainfall in this state is mainly brought by South West monsoonal winds. This wind causes heavy rainfall as it collects moisture while blowing over Bay of Bengal.

People Of Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh, the 'Gateway toCentral India', has an age-old cultural legacy that dates back to the antiquity. The state has a traditional culture and is inhabited by a variety of people. The people of Chhattisgarh are friendly exuberant people who like to live life to the hilt.
The multi-ethnic culture of Chhattisgarh is attributed to its diverse tribes, cultures and faiths. The people have preserved their traditional culture. There is hardly any trace of urban cosmopolitan culture save a few industrial cities like Raipur and Bhiali. The local inhabitants are mainly tribal people and the principal tribes to dominate the populace are:

·  Halbaa

·  Bhatra

·  Dhurvaa
 

The people mainly converse in Hindi and Chhattisgarhi and a variety of local dialects. The numerous folklores, folksongs and musical instruments, dramas, ballads and songs, food and drink manifest the state’s cultural diversities and are enjoyed by the young and old alike. Mirth and merriment add color to their lives.
